Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the foremost causes of blindness, affecting over 200 million individuals worldwide. Early detection of AMD could prevent vision impairment and greatly enhance quality of life. However, AMD is typically diagnosed after irreversible anatomical changes occur. Before these symptoms manifest, functional alterations of degenerative retinal diseases can be detected using our novel ophthalmic diagnostic device that brings together quantum tech and vision science: Structured Light Observation, Perception, and Evaluation (SLOPE). SLOPE is a unique tool that is geared towards being employed during routine eye examinations and screening of the general public over 40 years of age.
